Although being 18 years old in most countries is considered an adult, in Japan, the legal age is 20. Japan has a coming of age ceremony for 20-year-olds and many things such as legal drinking, the right to get married, buying tobacco, etc. are restricted to those over 20 years old.

According to Japanese Wikipedia, Takayuki was born on March 16, 1981, in a place called Hikari City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. The eldest son of a family of two boys, he lived with his father, mother, brother, and grandmother.
Though the family seemed to be a regular well to do middle-class family, Takayuki’s father was a very angry and demanding person who often took out his rage on his wife. Japanese news sites also reported that he had been rumored to have raped his wife before they were together. She became pregnant with Takayuki and then Takayuki’s father married her.
