Whether you are planning to move to Japan and bring your pet or are in Japan already and hoping to get a pet in Japan, this guide should help you along the way.

Note:

If you are only coming to Japan as a visitor, it probably won’t be a good idea to bring your pet if you are only coming for a short time. The paperwork, tests, and quarantine period required would make it hard for you to bring a pet on vacation.

I will be focusing on bringing dogs and cats to Japan. There might be some different rules for other types of animals so you should check the Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries Website for specific information.

You should also go to this website to download all the paperwork you will need based on the country you are coming from.
